Premise: The annual ninja race collects ninjas from dojos across the land! The ninjas race along the course, while remaining hidden from the keen Ninja Master. The clan with the greatest stealth gets the prize!
Objective: Be the first to get all of your ninjas to the dojo on the other side of the course.
Materials: You may want an additional water hexagon to make the game symmetrical. No playing cards are necessary, and only one ninja die is needed.
Set up:
Shuffle your hexagon cards. Make two interlocking rows of hexagons with a dojo at either end. Place 3 ninjas from each team on one of the dojos. Reserve one Mountain hexagon, one Plains hexagon, one Forest Hexagon, and one water hexagon. These will be the "seeing eye" of the Ninja master. Shuffle the 4 hexagons and place them face down in a row.
Playing the Game:
On each turn, all teams will move their ninjas, and then a hexagon will be drawn for the Ninja Master.
Movement: On your teams move roll one ninja die to find out how many ninja moves you have. Move one or multiple ninjas, but only up to the total sum of the roll. Ninja moves do not all have to be used on a turn, but unused moves will be lost.
In this picture, the Yellow clan has 5 ninja moves. They moved one ninja three hexagons and one ninja two.
The Ninja Master sees:
After all the teams have moved, the Ninja Master hex is drawn from the 4, and the Ninja Master sees all ninjas in the forest hexagons. Red team has one ninja in the forest, and so that ninja must return back to the beginning.
The Forest hexagon remains face up for the next movement phase. (All teams now know that Forest Hexagons are 'safe' for the next Ninja Master drawing.)
After all of the teams have finished their ninja moves, another Ninja Master card is drawn. In this picture, the Ninja Master now sees all ninjas in the Mountains. The yellow clan ninja in the Mountains will have to return back to the start.
The remaining 3 hexagons are shuffled...
.... and placed back down, now the teams know that for the next round the mountain hexagons are 'safe.'
Continue game play until a clan lands all of their ninjas on the dojo on the other side of the course!
